Welcome to the 2011 United Way Campaign Headquarters!

A MESSAGE FROM OUR 2011 CAMPAIGN CO-CHAIRS
Carmen Perez & Gene Schaefer

It’s that time of the year again, when corporations across Miami-Dade County come together to show their unwavering commitment to our community through their annual United Way campaign. Employees, executives, team members and company owners, all work together to create a more educated, prosperous and healthy Miami-Dade.

Your United Way campaign is more than a fundraising effort, it’s a way to help your co-workers and employees give back to our community, it encourages teamwork, fosters a positive work environment and, if planned well, can be a lot of fun!

Your role as employee campaign manager (ECM)

As your company’s United Way’s campaign manager, you are the person who brings United Way to life in your organization. Your job is to plan, implement and lead the campaign at your workplace. With the help of United Way staff and a strong workplace campaign team, you can run a fun and successful campaign.
  • 2011-2012 Campaign Guide - 8 Steps to a Successful United Way Workplace Campaign: This guide will provide you with all the information you need to run a successful campaign. It includes eight steps from kickoff to finish, tips to best practices and online sample resources to help you along the way.

Campaign communication tools and online resources

We know that one of the most important parts of running a successful campaign is spreading the word throughout your company. Your co-workers and employees will have questions and want to know more about United Way and the work we do. The more they know, the more connected they’ll feel to the cause.

We make sure you have all the communication tools and resources you need to answer their questions and to get as many people involved as possible.

  • United Way Campaign Brochure: United Way has a community plan focused on changing our community and its future through investments in programs to improve the education of our children, the financial stability of our families, and the health of our neighbors.
  • United Way 2011 Annual Report: Every year, we publish a report highlighting our work throughout the community over the past year. It is a great resource for educating employees on United Way’s work throughout the community.
  • Did You Know?: We invest in 120 programs at 58 partner agencies in Miami-Dade that are focused on improving education, financial stability and health. The “Did You Know?” document highlights results from just some of our programs and how the community plan dollars are used.
  • Campaign video: A picture is worth a thousand words and there is nothing more powerful than hearing directly from someone whose life has been changed. Our 2011 campaign video shares stories of real people whose lives have been changed through United Way.
  • Email templates: Emails are a quick and easy way to keep employees informed and motivated during the workplace campaign. Use these templates throughout the campaign to help your employees learn more about United Way and how your dollars are invested in our community.
  • Campaign gift cards: Additional gift cards, in case you run out. Just print, fill out and return to United Way of Miami-Dade.

Engaging Volunteers

  • Volunteer Reader Program: United Way of Miami-Dade launched its Volunteer Reader Program to enhance literacy opportunities for young children and instill a love for reading, even before they can read. As of September 1st, 45 volunteer readers are spending one hour a week each reading to nearly 600 students enrolled in 39 pre-K classrooms at eight early learning centers throughout Miami-Dade. • The Community Cupboard: In Fall 2011, the United Way Center for Excellence in Early Education will launch and begin stocking The Community Cupboard -- a food pantry to support low-income families served at the Center, by providing them with nonperishable foods and diapers at no cost. The Community Cupboard will expand resources doing more than providing support to the Center’s families; it will create a model that can be replicated in other early education centers throughout Miami-Dade.
