When does the agency receive my money?

Generally the contributor's payroll deductions begin in January of the year following the United Way of Miami-Dade fall campaign. United Way of Miami-Dade receives payments from their organization either monthly or quarterly. Due to the large number of agencies receiving funds from the Contributor Choice Program,  United Way pays agencies quarterly starting in May, then in August, November, and in February of the following year. A final payment is made in June. Fully paid gifts received during the fall campaign are paid in January.

How does a contributor know the agency they designated to is receiving their money?

United Way of Miami-Dade sends a letter to each contributor acknowledging the gift amount and any designated agencies. The letter instructs the contributor to advise United Way of Miami-Dade if there is any correction to be made on the information provided in the letter. We also provide detailed reports via email to agencies receiving funds from the Contributor Choice Program. If a contributor chose to have his name released to the agency, the report includes the contributor’s information. United Way of Miami-Dade urges agencies to send acknowledgment to the United Way contributors detailed in the report. Most agencies send an acknowledgment letter to the contributor indicating they have received a contribution, however, there are agencies that do not.

If my check is cashed by United Way in September why does the agency receive the money in January?

Due to the large number of agencies participating in the United Way of Miami-Dade’s Contributor Choice Program, all funds received during the fall campaign are paid in January. At that time most of the employee campaigns are finalized and all cash donations received.

What is United Way’s processing fee?

United Way of Miami-Dade charges a 1.5% fee on designated gifts. This fee is much lower than other organizations charge for similar services.

Are there any additional fees associated with my gift?

If a contributor pays the gift with a credit card, United Way of Miami-Dade deducts the processing fee charged by the credit card company from the contributor’s total gift. The average credit card company processing fee is 3%.

Can I designate to my church?

Yes, as long as your church has a letter of determination from the IRS indicating its 501(c) 3 status.

Do I need to know the account number for the agency I am designating to?

No. Just write the full agency name, address and phone number. Please do not abbreviate the name of the agency.

Why didn’t the agency receive 100% of my contribution when my full gift was deducted?

If your employer does not send a detailed report with each payment to United Way of Miami-Dade, the payout of your designated gift depends on your organization’s overall collection rate.  If you feel that your pledge was fully deducted, contact your organization’s payroll department and ask them to provide United Way of Miami-Dade with confirmation of your actual annual payroll deduction. Efforts should be made to have the organization send us the detail of all employee payroll deductions electronically to insure proper credit.

Why is United Way billing me for the 2007 campaign when I fully paid my gift in 2006; what about my designation for 2006?

Payments made to United Way of Miami-Dade during calendar year 2007 relate to the 2006 United Way of Miami-Dade fall campaign.

When do agencies receive payments from United Way?

 Agencies receive payments from United Way of Miami-Dade quarterly, starting in the month of May following the previous campaign year. Additional payments are made in August and November. Another payment is made in February of the second year, and a final payment in June. United Way of Miami-Dade also makes a payment in January for any cash collections received during the fall campaign.

Can you tell me if donor X has designated to my agency this year and how much?

United Way provides a total of seven reports to agencies including details of contributions made to them by individual contributors through the United Way Contributor Choice Program. The name and address of the contributor is provided only when the contributor states that he/she wants their information released, otherwise the contributor is reported as anonymous. An agency can download the Acknowledgement Report at any time from our web portal.  This report includes the contributor’s name, address, giving amount and type of payment. Subsequently, a Payee by Organization Report can also be retrieved and downloaded from our web portal for each payment made to the agency. Most agencies send an acknowledgment or thank you letter to the contributor indicating that they have received a contribution from United Way of Miami-Dade.

What type of reports can United Way provide my agency?

 United Way of Miami-Dade provides each agency an Acknowledgement Report and a Payee Report by organization.

When does United Way pay out direct payments received from contributors (i.e. cash, stocks)?

 There is a cash payment made in January and quarterly payments thereafter. Gifts of $10,000 or more are paid to agencies upon the contributor’s request and as funds are received by United Way of Miami-Dade.

How does electronic transfer work and how does my agency sign up?

Through EFT (electronic fund transfer) funds from United Way of Miami-Dade are sent directly to the agency’s bank account. An ACH form must be completed in order for an agency to receive funds through United Way of Miami-Dade.

Does United Way provide contributors with tax receipts?

Yes. In January of every year, United Way of Miami-Dade provides tax receipts to contributors who have made a one-time payment in cash, or with a check or by credit card for $250 or more to United Way. The letter confirms the date that United Way receives the gift and to which campaign year the gift was credited.

Does United Way provide contributors with acknowledgment letters?

Yes. In January of every year, United Way of Miami-Dade sends a thank you letter to contributors who have made a gift to United Way. Subsequent gifts are also acknowledged with a letter.

Can I ask contributors to designate their pledges to my agency through United Way?

No. Our Contributor Choice policy requires that each agency in the program sign an “agreement not to promote designations.”  This agreement prohibits the agency or its representatives from actively engaging in promotional activities that encourage Contributor Choice designations  through United Way of Miami-Dade to be allocated solely to said agency.

What is my agency’s account number with United Way?

United Way of Miami-Dade does not assign an account number to any agency. United Way uses the agency name for identification purposes.
