People without health care are getting help

  • Many people don’t know where to access free services
  • This year, program supported through community plan educated over 500 Little Haiti residents about free or subsidized care
Uninsured women’s odds of beating cancer are increasing
  • Early detection of breast and cervical cancers proven to increase survival odds
  • Last year, program supported by community plan screened 2,500 uninsured women for breast and cervical cancer
  • 500 of women screened required additional care and were referred to additional services
Older adults are living on their own
  • Average cost of one year in nursing care for one person: $38,000
  • Older adults who live in own homes enjoy dignified, independent lives
  • Last year, program supported through community plan helped over 95% of older adults it served to stay in own homes and avoid nursing home care
Young children in poor neighborhoods are being immunized against disease
  • Vaccinating young children not only avoids disease, but also longer-term health problems that can hurt school performance
  • Last year, community plan supported program that immunized 96% of three-year-olds it served in Liberty City, Allapattah – that’s 30% higher than the county rate of immunizations for kids that age
Older adults are staying healthy
  • Good nutrition key to older adults fighting disease and illness
  • Fighting disease and illness key to older adults staying independent
  • Nationally, up to 16% of older adults lack proper nutrition
  • Last year, 8,332 older adults in Miami-Dade regularly received hot, nutritious meals, increasing ability to fight illness and enjoy golden years
