United Way/FamilyWize partnership helps the community save $1 million on prescription medicines
In July 2011, the United Way of Miami-Dade/FamilyWize partnership officially saved the community $1 million on the cost of prescription medicines. In a bold move to continue this momentum, United Way of Miami-Dade and FamilyWize have committed, with all the participating pharmacies, to doubling these savings over the next 12 months.

Miami-Dade law enforcement leaders say quality early education pays off
Miami law enforcement leaders called on state and federal lawmakers to support funding for high-quality early education as a critical strategy to reduce crime, lower prison costs and save taxpayers money. They noted that Florida taxpayers spend more than $2 billion a year on corrections—a figure that could be reduced by offering more at-risk youth high-quality early education opportunities.

Outstanding leaders honored at our 2011 Annual Meeting and Volunteer Awards Ceremony
United Way of Miami-Dade presented four awards for outstanding service to the community at its Annual Meeting and Volunteer Awards Ceremony on Wednesday, June 22. A new slate of officers, directors and trustees were also elected, and Jayne Harris Abess, partner in ThinkLab Ventures, began her term as chair of the board.
