United Way of Miami-Dade and The Miami Herald/el Nuevo Herald activated Operation Helping Hands in January to collect donations in response to the catastrophic earthquake in Haiti. Our efforts are now extending to help the people of Chile, following an 8.8-magnitude earthquake that hit the country. One hundred percent of all contributions to Operation Helping Hands will go to support relief efforts to the victims of both earthquakes.
Operation Helping Hands, a partnership between The Miami Herald/el Nuevo Herald and United Way of Miami-Dade, was established to provide South Florida residents with a way to reach out and help their neighbors in need following a disaster or humanitarian crisis.
Partners in Operation Helping Hands include: Aetna; Akerman Senterfitt; American Airlines; The Beacon Council; CVS Caremark; Miami-Dade County; Miami-Dade County Public Schools; Noven Pharmaceuticals; Royal Caribbean Cruises, Ltd.; Switchboard of Miami, Inc.; and the University of Miami.
