Achieving a healthy community is at the heart of the community plan set forth by United Way volunteers and other community experts. It’s a strategic approach to delivering measurable results in four key areas that are essential to improving people’s lives and strengthening the community:

How do we get results? Four steps:

1. Identify the need: We first identify the health and human service challenges facing our community.

2. Engage community in creating solutions: We bring people together from government, business, labor, education, nonprofits and the community at large to team up on solutions. By focusing on a finite set of community needs and working on solutions together, we can move the needle toward the outcomes we desire.

3. Leverage assets: Using the plan as our guide, we use our expertise to develop a public policy agenda, focus joint planning efforts on strategies that eliminate barriers to services, convene partners to collaborate on new initiatives and invest in high quality health and human service programs that are improving people’s lives in measurable and definable ways. We also help the programs we support to build their own capacity to deliver quality services.

4. Measure results and report back: By measuring our results, we can track our progress and evaluate our success. Not only does it tell us who receives help, but more importantly how their lives are changed for the better. That’s the positive, definable return you can expect when you invest in the community plan. Our strict financial oversight and accountability can help you rest easy, knowing your investment is in good hands.

When you invest directly in the plan, your gift supports the myriad of ways we bring about community change. This includes programs that are able to leverage your dollars, bringing even more help to those who need it. The community plan extends beyond simply investing dollars to support programs. Many times, the solution requires advocating for better public policy, or getting people to work together. And you make all the difference.

We have a clear plan for changing community conditions, but we can’t do it alone. It takes the community working together to achieve real and lasting impact. We combine your gift with those of your colleagues, friends and neighbors to create a powerful partnership that accomplishes much more than what anyone can do alone.
