Demonstrate your community citizenship throughout the year.
Below are a few of the ways we can help you and your employees connect with one another, with United Way, and with the community, all year long. Contact your United Way representative for more information, or, if your organization does not currently run a United Way campaign, e-mail caring@unitedwaymiami.org.
Miami-Dade Prosperity Campaign United Way is a proud partner of the Miami-Dade Prosperity Campaign, which helps employers help their eligible employees substantially increase their income, and helps our community…because eligible low-income workers can bring millions of federal dollars into our community. The campaign focuses on three economic benefits programs:
- Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) – A refundable tax credit up to $4,500 for low-income working families and individuals
- Food Stamps – This program helps low-income people buy food they need to maintain good health
- KidCare/Medicaid – Provides health insurance for uninsured children, up to age 18, based on income and family size; families pay no more than $20 per month
Financial planning seminars At these free non-soliciting seminars at your place of work, advisors and volunteers from the financial community advise on the financial aspects of getting married, raising a family, buying or selling a home, funding an education, planning for retirement, caring for an aging parent, and more. For more details, click here.
Help talks A series of informational talks assigned to help your employees deal with important issues like choosing affordable, quality childcare, dealing with difficult teens, managing money, handling stress, etc. For more details, click here.
Hurricane/emergency preparedness Your United Way is here to help you prepare for hurricanes and other major emergencies – and to help you recover in the event of a disaster. As a community organization with established partnerships with government and private agencies, we are your link to key information on preparedness and response. From on-site presentations to important links to our partners’ websites, we have resources to help you get through the crisis whether you are responsible for protecting your family, your business, your home or all three. And, of course, should disaster strike, we specialize in bringing people together to recover.
Union peer counseling class A 40-hour training, designed to improve personal development and inform people about community resources so they can reach out to peers in need.
Volunteerism United Way can partner with your organization on individual and group volunteer opportunities. Of course, this includes our annual one-day community service project. United Way and Hands On Miami, our partner in volunteerism since 1996, have teamed up to make our annual one-day project and Hands On Miami Day one and the same – making an even greater impact than ever. Hands On Miami Day usually takes place the first Saturday in November, and benefits more than 30 community organizations throughout Miami-Dade. It’s an exciting, powerful day where individuals, teams and families can join in to take care of what matters most.
Effective Board Leadership: A nuts and bolts training Twice each year, we offer this three-part seminar series on consecutive Saturdays. It helps participants connect with the community by giving them skills essential to volunteering on nonprofit boards. We also bring in partners that help to place participants on local nonprofit boards.
New hires Tell new employees of the dynamic partnership your organization has with United Way and the community. Incorporate United Way into your new employee orientation or arrange for United Way to welcome a new executive to your organization.

Longtime contributors If someone has been giving to United Way – any United Way – for 25 years or more, we want to know about it. With a commitment that has endured throughout the years and that has made a lasting impact on people's lives, these longtime contributors deserve our special thanks.
Retirement and exit programs United Way can help your organization continue contact with your retirees. We can also provide them with opportunities to continue supporting the community through gifts of time, talent and resources.
Good Works
Loaned Executives This program offers your employees a memorable and meaningful way to develop their public speaking, negotiation and networking skills. Coming from a cross-section of our community’s businesses and organizations, Loaned Executives help United Way achieve success during our annual fundraising campaign.
Special events Throughout the year, United Way hosts events that give people a chance to connect with one another and with the community. These include an annual wine and food festival, a Mayor’s Ball, an annual meeting, and more. And, beyond monthly and bi-monthly Women’s Leadership and Young Leaders events, United Way holds an annual thank-you reception for all Leadership & Endowment Circle members. |
